We were commissioned by Peter Elliot Architecture and Urban Design to print the awnings and vertical window blinds for Mirka at Tolarno Hotel in 2007 with Mirka Mora’s beautiful artwork. Mirka’s artwork features through out the Hotel and most notably the restaurant and has done since it was first opened by Georges and Mirka Mora back in 1966. Visit their home page for a trip down the Mora memory lane; quite moving. It is a Melbourne institution and very few places retain this standing these days when renovation often extinguishes all past incarnations. But I sense a real shift, a return to art and craft and handmade, to growing vegetables and making our homes more about what is intrinsic to us and how we can make ourselves more comfortable and happy in our own space. I’ve been thinking about this with clothing too. A girlfriend last week said that she still had the 21st outfit I sewed for her that long ago. I have been really wanting to buy myself a sewing machine because I think it has been 21 years since I last sewed anything. I see beautiful fabrics being sold online and they are environmentally friendly with short print runs and I start to dream up tablecloths, clothes for my little girl and outfits for myself that I can’t seem to find in shops. I am sending these images through as inspiration and because I found some undiscovered images I wanted to share (first and last). The window blinds are automated from the base to screen upwards. Verosol blinds they are. I like this too because it makes a feature of them. Here they are shown at quarter mast so patrons can pop a view of the street and the last shot is at full mast (internal shot).
